How to set up any hardware wallet safely
They apply no matter which of the four you choose; the device matters less than following these basics.
Buy only from the official site
Or an explicitly authorized reseller. Never a marketplace listing, never a 'pre-configured' device, never second-hand.
Check the tamper seal on arrival
If packaging looks opened, resealed, or the device arrives already paired/activated, stop and contact the manufacturer before using it.
Generate your own recovery phrase
Always create a new wallet on-device yourself. Never use a seed phrase that came pre-printed in the box or from anyone else.
Write it down physically, never digitally
Paper or steel, offline, in a safe location. Never photograph it, type it, or store it in a password manager or cloud note.
Test with a small amount first
Send a small transaction before moving significant funds, and confirm every address on the device screen when one is available.

Do I really need a hardware wallet?
If you're holding crypto beyond a quick trade, a hardware wallet can reduce exposure to browser-extension malware, compromised computers and exchange custody failures by keeping signing keys isolated.
Which of these four is the most secure?
It depends on your threat model. OneKey's Pro has the most certified chips (four); SafePal's S1/S1 Pro has the smallest wireless attack surface (true air-gap); Trezor's current lineup finally adds a certified secure element to its decade-long open-source track record; Tangem trades some of that for convenience. Read each review's security section before deciding; there's no single answer.
Can any of these be hacked?
We link and explain each one in the detailed reviews rather than pretending any device is unhackable. Physical possession plus enough time, money and skill can compromise most hardware given a determined enough attacker; several wallets covered here have documented security findings, which we discuss in the individual reviews rather than treating any device as unhackable.
What's the difference between a seed phrase and Tangem's seedless design?
Most wallets generate a 12/24-word recovery phrase as the master backup. Tangem can instead generate keys directly on multiple physical cards, which back one another up, reducing reliance on a written seed at the cost of a less portable recovery method.
Do I need to trust this website with my funds?
